I need to remove the radio to get the code but do not know how. Also I don't even know how to set the code in either duhhh!! I bought the vehicle used and no manuals came with it. Looking for manuals to but have had no success. Did buy one on Ebay but it turned out to be for a 97 (aaah!!) Can anyone help sure would appreciate it. thanks John b Kamloops BC Canada

I don't believe your going to get the code that way. you will get the radio serial number and bring that to the dealer and they will get you the code after you prove ownership. They may charge you for that though. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thanks I figured that my problem though..............is..........I need to remove the radio to get the serial number off the radio chassis and that is where I am hooped. I don't have any type of manuals and am clueless as to how to remove the radio to get the serial #. Also if anyone knows where to get an owner's or driver's manual for a 1995 BMW 540i I would love to hear from you. I have searched the net and did buy one on Eba7($60.00) and it turned out to be for a 1996 (totally different). Anyone want a real good complete 1996 BMW 540i owner's package I have one cheaper than cheap even has a nice leather bookd cover!!! Thanks again

Hey thanks that was quick, one more question? Apparently the "special release tools" are designed to plug into the four holes at the same time am I right? So could I not fashion a coat hanger or something similar to do the same? Thanks again want a 1996 BMW manual lol!!

It might work if they are the right thickness.

Hey thanks for all your help. I actually did a visual (a more thorough one this time) inspection and it appears on each side of the radio there is a little (1/2 " X 1/2") tab. Looks like it should clip out and I am thinking there will be either a screw )hopefully) or a pinhole. !!!!!! Can't wait till tomorrow I miss my sound system. Not at all the same. Thanks again for your help if nothing else you really got me motivated.!! Also noticed a little "squeak" in my right rear wheel, kinda goes away when I brake, Guess that should tell me something eh>> I can be so dumb sometimes lol. HAGO!!

Like HT has stated , you need the special tool to remove radio. There is no other clip or hole to do it. I have been able to use clotheshanger wire bent into a "U" and remove my radio on my lincoln .(same release system). You may have to play with it a bit to get just right. LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH

Usually you can get the code for your radio with the vin number from the car. Unless of course the radio has been replaced.
