I wasn't sure whether to post this in electrical or radio issues. Info: 1998 Nissan 200sx 1.6l i4 88000 The radio flickers on and off all the time. No other electrical items in the car flicker. The lights are steady, as well as dash lights, etc. It seems to happen more often when the car is stationary or idle. It also happens more often when a window defogger is turned on. I know the radio ground is attached and I installed the radio myself. It worked fine for many months before this started happening. No recent repairs done to the car except for a thermostat change. Thanks for any help.

The stereo is a Kenwood KDC-MP142. I bought it off a Crutchfield about a year ago. Like the above poster says, my radio also saves the time and info just fine. It always continues playing what it was playing before, same spot on a song on a CD as well.

if i'm correct, you may have bad solder connections on a group of surface mount resistors inside of the radio. They are rather small parts and take a bit of a delicate hand to resolder.

I'm not a car sound system expert at all but this is interesting. Will that same CD play fine on a home player? It's interesting that defroster seems to aggravate this? You do mean a RWD which is electric? Those draw a huge amount of current. What or how to you supply power to the new unit? Is it possibly more powerful than original that it should have its own power supply direct from fuse box? Did you get the adaptor/interface to use the OE wiring harness? All questions - sorry. I have two aftermarket cheaper systems but used an interface which meant you wire the stereo to the interface and just plug it into the car's existing wiring. I'd have paid the fortune for the OE system new but cars are over 20 years old and couldn't find them for love nor money. The originals were much more user friendly and could make changes without looking. Freaking aftermarket stuff you damn near have to pull over to change anything but they are made to fit assorted cars which is expected but way to flush faced for my liking and everything I looked at was! They sound fine but not as good as the originals and don't like copied CDs anywhere as much as the real original CDs. One is a cassette still - plays fine, T
