Hello,
I just bought a 2009 Mazda CX-9 Touring and am loving it! I really want to have nav in my car and don't want to use after market stuff. So I was able to find the radio display w/ navigation, which is typically in the Grand Touring trim at various used auto parts stores online. My question is how hard is it to switch out? I basically want to remove my current radio and replace it with the radio that in the grand touring trim. Will I need to buy any additional wires etc. outside of the actual part? I have friends who've said that it's simple because it's the OEM's nav/radio and it will just be swapping it out. But not sure if that's accurate or not.
I'm new to modifying cars and was told that this forum is the best place to find an answer to this. I would really appreciate any help!

My opinion maybe alone: Leave the OE stuff alone and get the feature you want separately that just plugs into a power port then you can take it with you to another. AYOR - installed "aftermarket" is too frequently the cause of troubles later or sometimes right away. Why risk it?

Forget about this idea. It's never going to work.
The dash display is only one component of a complicated system. The heart of the system is elsewhere in the car, along with a special antenna. This system is wired throughout the car and integrated into the wiring system. You can't simply swap out a part in the dash and think you will have working navigation.

Think you can get a decent GPS only, use power port/cig lighter and there are all kinds of holders universal to windshield or other that work. I wouldn't want one built in rather take it in the house to program a trip totally with stops is nasty dangerous if while driving anyway. That and take in anyone's car it's set to go.
Just had someone with me back from next town over his thing didn't know sh!t but would have done just taken longer on a lousy road vs a good one??

I have factory navigation in my Lexus Rx330 and let me tell you, my little Garmin is far more accurate and easy to use.

I ditched the nav and use my smart phone map app. No need to pay for updates.
I drive an rx300. Lexus did a good job on the RX models. I love it.
Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Mine's never been updated since new. I just found an update disc on E-bay for $10. That should improve things a lot but right now it says the GPS is only accurate to 700ft. I don't even think it's that close.
