I put a used stereo/cd player in my car. This is not the first time, but this time i wired everything up by the diagrams and it worked fine. Then I began to tape the wires up and put it back in the dash.I tried it again and nothing worked, I checked all fuses in the stereo and in the car and nothing.I would like to know what is wrong and how to fix it.So if anybody can help me that would be great. Thanks, and have a nice day

I'm unlikely to have the answers for you but know that most aftermarket sound systems unless totally custom to change everything should have an "interface" available so you wire it to that and that just plugs into car's OE wiring. Basically a plug adaptor. Best to solder in wires and shrink wrap over where soldered. Tape alone isn't very durable IMO. Anyone is going to need to know what type unit and car you are dealing with for more help, T

I have a 1990 xjs Jaguar, and the stereo is an pioneer cd player. Thanks for your reply.I was taping it as a temporary thing although i was going to use wire nuts and tape, but now that you told me that soldiering would be best i'll be sure to do that if or when I get it working again. Thanks again.

Laugh - I shouldn't even be replying but a few things about this. The car's speakers may not be compatible with the new/used unit. I wouldn't know. Absolutely if testing just use wire nuts. If it's going to be a no go then you aren't undoing an nice solder job which is always the best. If not familiar with it, put the shrink tube on first not like me and forget and away from the heat of the smallest soldering iron. Slide it over the splice and even a good hair dryer will shrink it tight. If room and away from harm a plain cigarette butane lighter works but just don't burn it - just the heat. I think you'll have trouble finding an interface I was talking about. If you have exact car and model, the exact model of the replacement unit hit up "Gary" at Gary@Wurlitzerstereo.net for availabilty. He owns a local joint for all kinds of car stereo and may either have or know who has just what you need to make it work. He found me the unit that converts common Kenwood products to a Ford special ordered JBL was OE such that it just plugs into original car's wiring with no cutting. All the splicing and connecting of wires was just the stereo's to this interface like it's own little translator - cool! Good luck. Hope someone here knows what you may face with a Jaguar in particular or the guy above if no answers to even know it won't work. Links not allowed in general but I'm making my own exception T

Well it sounds like one of the wires was insulated well enough & made contact to a ground. You should problably start with the cars power sources and check those wires with a test light. It's possible you popped a fuse on one of those and aren't looking at the right ones in the fuse box.........
