radio Sign In

2003 chevy malibu replacing factory radio with one from junk yard was told it has to be the same year or it wont work is this true

If it has the lock out feature, you will also need to get the code so it will work. You will probanbly need to go to the dealer to get the unlock code.

Not exactly sure on the swap thing. To be safe, I would try to get the VIN on both. I think you would need the one it came out of so it can be unlocked. Not sure. Where are the audio experts? Angelic

There is a code that the dealer can retrieve from the radio,then they call in to obtain a new unlock code.
I would get a radio from the same year and model or make sure you get one with the same part number.

Stop in at a GM/Chevy dealer,they can retrieve a back-up code from the radio,then they will call in to get a new unlock code for the radio.They or you can input the new code to unlock the radio.
Some dealers do this for free,others will charge a fee.

thanks for the response i went to a dealer monday he said 95.00 he has to call gm a get a code number he said he has to pull the radio out i think he bullSh!tting me
