01 dodge stratus 3.0l coupe issues Sign In

Lately ive been having issues with my car, first off my battery and brake lights came on, they would go on and off randomly until my car battery died and would not start. Alright so I replaced the battery and the positive terminal as it was pretty corroded. I also have the issue of when my stereo is above half volume and I use my windshield wipers or blinkers, my radio turns off and my brake and battery light flash for a split second randomly.

The alternator was replaced 2 years ago but I'm thinking about getting it tested and retightening the serpentine belt a little more. Any other suggestions?

Do you have a digital volt meter?

If you get a volt meter, you can take some voltage measurements at the battery and also at the cable lug on the back of the alternator. Knowing the voltages can tell you if the alternator is actually charging or not. You can also place loads on the alternator while the engine is running by turning the headlamps, blower, and other electrical accessories on to see how the alternator reacts when it is being asked to supply more current.

One important thing that you probably won't be able to check with your volt meter is the ability of the battery to supply current. Anytime you suspect a problem with the charging or starting system have the battery tested by someone with the equipment to do that. If you have a battery that is bad or can't keep up, the test you do on the charging circuit with your meter can be inconclusive.

The battery is brand new like 3 days old so it should still be good, but now the weird thing is, I had my blowers on max, and the stereo worked great, no shorts. However this morning when I go to start my car...battery is dead.

What did the volts say when you tried to start it? New doesn't mean it's any good or didn't draw down yet and a blower and stereo isn't close to the draw of a starter,
