05 Chevy Caviler, Starter wiring?...

I ran over an unavoidable / unknown thing in the road last week & now my car is being a crazy. When the key is in the ignition (only ½ way turned so the radio & lights come on), everything seems normal, when I try to turn it on, everything dies & makes a TINY sputtering sound from under the hood. I’ve checked the battery & its getting enough “juice”. I got a jump & it started right away, so I left it idle for about 45min, turned it off & back on… the same thing. Wiggled the battery terminals & it started up as normal (with no jump this time). Got the car home & it sat for a day, I tried to start it, same thing as above… {When the key is in the ignition (only ½ way turned so the radio & lights come on), everything seems normal, when I try to turn it on, everything dies & makes a TINY sputtering sound from under the hood.} This time we pushed the car to a spot where it could be jumped. Before I got the cables on the battery I figured I would try again… it started normal, no funny nose. Later that night I sent my fiancé (who is not mechanically inclined) to make sure it was OK for me to drive to work the following day, he said “it wouldn’t start then he rocked back & forth in the car, put it in N let it roll back a little bit, put it back in P and it started). Next morning… I got nothing. Today is the 1st day I have had to “tackle” this problem. My father seems to think whatever I ran over may have pulled some wiring from the starter or other electrical devise. Does anyone know where I can find a diagram, of the all the wiring & what part it goes to? Or have any suggestions of things to try? Oh and its an automatic... dont know if that makes a difference.? Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance Renee

Damn! There's no textbook for this one. There could be issues with the neutral safety switch which I think is under the car. You really have to look at what got physically damaged to know what to do next. Look at all wiring on and around the starter and wires to the neutral safety switch, T

So I got it started today & brought it to an auto part store, they tested the alternator, starter & battery. They said my battery is the issue… however I started my car 3 different times today with no problems at all, just started right up, seems to drive ok unless its idling (sounds like its going to stall). What are the odds of a lose or bad wire (+ from battery to starter)? Go figure... no books for my car, I went to 4 auto part stores & 2 book stores. Should have bought the extended warranty::: DOAH!

No books are going to help much. No extended warranty would cover this. This is damage not just a failure of a part in normal use. You or someone has to look and see what got damaged not unlike a collision. The battery in an 05 vehicle could be 3 years old. Most are still ok but it is getting to the point of of age alone where their dependability drops off. I doubt hitting road debris damaged the battery. Have a body shop check this out. It may even be covered under insurance for unavoidable, enexpected road debris. In my state the roads that are neglected and not fixed when a problem is known are the responsibility of the state or town that owns that road for the damage they cause. If debris fell off another vehicle it would be their responsibility if you could find them, T
