Hi all Hope some one can help me. I have a 05 megane cab 1.6vvt . i was driving home from work last night on my way to petrol station as i was nearly in the red. few miles from petrol station my fuel light came on as normal with 44 miles in my tank. When it drops below 44 miles i get three lines (---) like so on the dash board. then all of a sudden it showed up 203miles and started counting up. all other gages on the computer did the same like my mpg and trip gage. so i filled up with £20 which would give me around 140miles from empty and im still have the same problem . my car drives fine and i have not noticed any problems anywhere else. I have recently have my key cards repaired as the car wouldn't detect them. A common fault i recently found out with 05 and older models so im hoping someone can shed some light . I have held off going to a garage as my dad has worked on cars all his life and would rather he fix it if possible but were both a little lost as what's the matter with it . any advice grateful thanks

I strongly advise you against running your fuel that low. In tank fuel pumps are cooled and lubricated by the fuel in the tank. When you run a car out of gas or very low, it pumps a lot of air through the pump which overheats it and causes some severe wear and many times, failure when they cool off. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
