06 Ford E450 fuel pump won't work

I have a 06 Ford E 450 with a 6.0 diesel has a 120000 miles on her . A few weeks ago it died and I wrote about it in another column on here . Well it turns out the fuel pump won't turn on .I went thru and checked the FICM and other relays inertia switch relays . I followed the powertrain and emission ford manual . So what I did was I by passed the wiring and turn the fuel pump on .After everything was full I tried to start and it started till it ran out of fuel . The question is can I wire up the fuel pump bypassing the PCM ? Also There is power at the inertia switch .How does it work ?Where does it get it's power and wher does it go after that ? Thank you

Not very fond of 'rigging' esp on a 2006, Lets work it out FIRST.
Scan for codes even if light is off.
Attached is a wiring dia - #2 will show inertia switch to fuel pump... quickly probeing KOEO with DVOM - fuel pump relay, inertia sw ?

I have power at the inertia switch . When I reset interia swith I have power on both sides . Thank you for the wiring diagrams . My question is which plug on the PCM controls the engine . I read where I check a pin on there for the fuel pump . Then I can use that and bypass the bad wires .

No, you cannot bypass the PCM for fuel controls for safety reasons. Find your actual problem and repair it.

Do NOT go rigging this - you have the diagram - test voltages and let us know we will walk you thru it.
Simple 1-2-3
1) what codes are in system - scan even if light is off.
2) do you have 12 v at inertia both sides?
3) do you have 12v at pump, at pump is grd good?

I don't have a trouble light on . I checked with my scan tool and did the KOEO and said my test was good . Then I checked codes and it said I had aP0232 . I checked the ground at the pump connector and had 2.3 Ohms . Ford said it should be 5 or less . I checked the relay and it had 12 volts and was good . Relay checked out and was turning on . The reason I asked about the inertia switch was trying to see where it got it's power from (PCM ) and if it did then the other side of it would go to the FP .If it was powered by PCM then I could run a wire from that to the fuel pump and keep it all using the factory setuip . Make sense ?

It doesn't sound like you understand electrical circuits at all. You really need to have this troubleshooted by an electrical expert.

I do understand the electrical systems . This is an E series and very difficult to get into things . So I am trying to find the easiest way . I will go from the PCM if needed . I don't think I need a PCM since I had it running by energyicing the fuel pump

There is no "easiest way". There is only one way and that is to diagnose the problem properly and resolve the issue.
I'll give you one hint. There is no power feed from the PCM.

lets continue
1) you did find a code p0232 - any others?
you will need a helper as these are hot for only 20 seconds if no start Maybe for testing swap FP relay with a like relay and check..
2) KOEO what is voltage at inertia switch 2 wires pretty easy -
3) KOEO at pump unplug connector is there 12v WH wire?

I have 11.5 volts at the inertia switch . I had another code of P0113 but figure I had the air monitor sensor disconnected by taking out intake parts . I opened the secondary filter and turn on the ignition numerous times but neither filter filled up . I then tested the pump with my power probe and filled them up .

Power goes from the Inertia switch, directly to the pump so you either have a bad Inertia switch, bad pump or bad connection in between.

What's the point in the complication?
He has power at the Inertia switch. That's the last stop before the pump so everything before that is working.

Yes HT - walking thru this 1,2,3 - can't get a answer without several attempts...
there is 12v at inertia - one or but both sides?
Finally suggested jumping to end zone is there 12v at pump ? gave wire color and 20 sec info - I think there is an suspected answer we are not giving.
Still cant answer if a remote start involved,

It doesn't matter if the car has remote start or not.
He has power to the Inertia switch so the only thing that needs troubleshooting is from that point to the pump and then ground.
All these other questions are just confusing something that is pretty simple at this point, assuming everything he has told us is true.

Thank you Hammertime that's what i needed to know . I thought if one leg of inertia switch then the other leg goes to the pump ? I know when I touched the power side and turned the key on that my power probe showed it was hot for about 20 seconds the go off . I appreciate the help of all !!!

Yes, it is supposed to pass right through the Inertia switch. If it is not hot on both sides, either the switch has tripped or is bad.

(update) I checked the inertia switch this morning . The one leg of wire came to life when I turned the key on and after 20 seconds went off . I plugged the inertia switch into the harness . I did the same thing with the second wire and again 20 seconds and off .I then unplugged the inertia switch and ran a 12 + wire to the the inertia switch harness that feeds the fuel pump . Then I went to the fuel pump and checked that connector with my powerprobe and it said I had 12 + volts there but when I plugged connector in fuel pump didn't come on . I checked the ground wire to the fuel pump and it was 2.5 Ohm's . So I am wondering do I have a true positive volts or bad connector . What I am thinking is maybe the wire from the inertia switch to pump isn't bad somewhere and there is not enough power to run the pump ? I am fairly new with electronics so I am sorry for being on here so much . Thanks

When you were checking the ground you were testing between the black wire and the chassis, right.
If so, it just sounds like you have a bad pump.

Well thats what I did and you would think that would be a good ground . I spliced the ground wire to the pump and used that wire to the negative battery . She started up and ran for quite awhile . I do have the ICP disconnected .What are the ideas on that one . Thank you for your advice

The bottom line is you need 12 and a good ground arriving at the pump. Find out which one you don't have and resolve it.
