1987 Wrangler ignition failure

1987 Wrangler ignition failure

1987 Jeep Wrangler(130K miles), 4.0L , Weber Carb. Standard shift. Engine cranks, but no spark, I changed the ignition module and coil, no help. There seem to br three major parts to the system; the distributor, ignition module and coil. There is voltage at the coil, but I want to check/test the dist. Any ideas using DVM, o'scope... . Are you sure about what engine you have. They didn't offer a 4.0 in an 87 Wrangler

I am not an expert, but I don't think a
carbureted engine has a crank sensor. I if did where is it located? Thanks

No, it doesn't have a crank sensor but it has a pick up coil in the distributor that does the same job as a crank sensor.

Agreed. I am trying to find someone who knows how to test the distributor, such as pick up coil resistance.

Measuring resistance will help but to be sure you need a portable lab scope to view the wave pattern. You could rig a noid light at the -side of the coil and a power supply to determine if the pick up is working also.
