1987 lincoln starter solenoid

My 87 Lincoln Towncar's starter solenoid locks in and will not release. Have replaced solenoid twice and a new battery. It fries the solenoid as soon as you hit the key.Starter runs free and car starts but starter continues to run with switch off. Car has a 302 with 117000 miles. Where do look next for problem?

What happens if you pull the wire off the "S" terminal after it starts?
