1990 toyota celica gts won't start

I have a 1990 toyota celica gts. It has a 2.2 16 vaulve toyota engine with a efi system. It has 137145 miles on. The distributor leaks oil but other than that there are no major leaks. I bought it a few years ago and have dropped alot of money into it. I put a new radiator, thermostat, timing belt, water pump, distributor cap, plug wires, struts and mounts, altinator, starter, and a battery over the course of the time I've had it. The problem that I have now is that after i've been running my car for a while and the car is hot, it won't start if I turn it off. I thought that it was the starter, so I took it off and took it to the auto store to get it tested. They said it came back clean. I'm at a loss of what to do and I need to figure it out before I go to college in the fall.

I'm sorry but you can't test a starter off the car, especially one that has an intermittent problem. It has to be tested in the vehicle during the failure. Since it's being effected by heat, the starter is a high probability but still needs to be confirmed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Is there any way that battery could be too small? Would that have any thing to do with it? When I put that battery in I told them I had a celica gts. But I didn't check the vin number. Later on when I had the struts done the mechanc gave me a call and asked why didn't I tell him the motor was bigger than the vin said it was. I think the vin says that it's a 1.8 or a 2.0. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Using too small of a battery will usually shorten the battery's life but it should still start the car until that point.

Hi I have a 1990 toyota celica. Everyone tells me I have some kind of electrical problem because we have tried everything else. All my interior lights work but my car wont start. I put in a new starter and some new fuses. So I believe it is an electrical problem somewhere. If you know anything about electrical work please let me know Im going crazy trying to fix this car and get it up and running. Thank you so much, Keith!
