Engine is a v6 100k miles It started of buy dying as soon as the gas is pressed while in gear. It will idle and slowly move but if you press to hard it dies. In neutral it just bogs a little bit down but then climbs in rpm when I step on it. If I put it in gear it and slowly accelerate it will go to 2000 but peaks there. It's like there is a half a second delay from stepping on the gas to the engine picking up. I started by changing the air filter. It was the dirtiest I have ever seen. I changed the coil. No difference. Figured out how to read codes. It said code 25 but I'm not sure if that was post me messing with it or not. I reset it and the code went away. I cleaned the egr. Nothing. Then I cleaned the mass air flow. Nothing except it doesn't start at all now. Checked spark and no spark. Today I read a post saying to check for the distributor being bad using a noid light on and injector. Well the injectors have a pulse. My question is it the igniter then? It's a 200 dollar part so I don't want to buy it unless I'm sure that is most likely it.

Forgot to mention I did test the fuel pressure and it's good

What was the fuel pressure? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

That's actually too high. Fuel Pump Pressure No vacuum to regulator 38 - 44 psi (265 - 304 kPa) With vacuum to regulator 33 - 37 psi (226 - 265 kPa) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Well the needle was fluctuating really fast between 45 and 50 at idle. Could that be the problem? Too much pressure?

I wouldn't believe that unless you verified it with another gauge. It may not be true.

Would that also lead to the no spark issue?

So I went to the bone yard and got a igniter and a mass air flow. Still won't start now it's kicking out Code 14 Igniter signal circuit fault. Tried the old igniter and same thing. I guess it's possible I got two bad ones?

No, i thought you were still just dealing with a hesitation. Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on.

Today I read a post saying to check for the distributor being bad using a noid light on and injector. Well the injectors have a pulse. If you are missing the IGF signal, that means the coil isn't firing. The way this works is the ECU gets signals from the position sensors inside the distributor when it is turning. The ECU uses these signals to find out when to tell the igniter, called IGT, to fire the coil. When the coil fires there is a circuit inside the igniter that sends a signal, called an IGF, back to the ECU to tell it that the coil had fired. When code 14 pops up that means the ECU didn't receive the signal that the coil fired. Obviously the ECU is getting position sensor information because it is firing the injectors. You need to test the IGF and the IGT circuits. First, thing you should do is make sure you have battery voltage to the igniter. black/orange wire Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I already did a noid light test and the injectors are pulsing. The coil is brand new also so I'm not sure how that could be the problem. I managed to get it running again but not very well. It's almost like I'm driving a stick because I got to always keep a foot on the gas so the engine doesn't stall. It's idling now but almost at the point were it's going to stall. If I press on the gas normally (in drive) it stalls. If I gently press it it will climb but peak at 2000. Neutral has a delay where it bogs down but it will rev to as high as I want it to if I slowly accelerate.

How did you clean the mass air flow sensor? This one should use a vane air flow sensor. There is nothing to clean on it. Have you inspected the intake ducting for rips or disconnected hoses? How about the air filter and inside the air box? Anything in the air filter box intake that could be keeping air from getting in such as plastic bags or other stuff that got suck up in there? The flapper door inside the vane air flow sensor should easily move by hand. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
