Before you go too nuts this could still be battery connections at battery even if they look good. Just try some electrical item that should not quit when key turned to "start" position -- hazard lights, brake lights if you can see them and if they go out while just in crank position you should find just a hairline connection enough for small items but not for starter which IS the big load. Begin with just that simple check and then can go on to see if trigger wire isn't getting power, voltage drops etc. If that happens follow any procedures for any devices that wont like battery disconnected and clean up those terminals with a wire brush or sandpaper, neg off first back on last AYOR with setting off theft items or radio locking type things or use a memory saver, T

It's just that age and right when cars were dumping real long last lead cable ends for junk and have had troubles with tons lots younger than this. Nothing to do with MB but they didn't like lead and mercury among other metals used anywhere they could do without, T

So far I have found three wires with the jackets burnt off completely, 1 to the starter (#12 wire Purple/wh) 2 #14 (brown/green) 3 #14 (brown/black) of which one goes to plug in connector on pan and the other at the exhaust. do you have a drawing for these wires and also a vacuumn dwg.

Wiring diagrams are drawn by circuit and not by physical location. Besides, Mercedes wiring diagrams are hard to understand for even an experienced tech. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
