have you changed anything? starter, cables/wires, installed remote starter?
this is a s10 pickup?
sounds like the ppl wire is getting 12v
small eyeletl red wire I do not remember-- is there 12v on it? what size is the connector on the red wire- is it large lug for the batt cable stud?

The small red wire is 12v and the hole in connector is small like the ppl wire small red wire is combined with main hot from battery...yes its a new starter...

What happened to cause that? Purple wire TMK is just supposed to get power to trigger the solenoid when starter requested. If 12v or close power all the time the starter is asked to run. No surprise now starter runs when you hook up battery.

Was on watch for this. Did you really toast the starter with a bad battery as you said you disconnected it sounds like you limped along with a lousy one for some time maybe? Oddly low power/amps+volt can melt up wiring as it isn't going to turn starter but before you get the machine gun flutter to prevent this problem it might not have and a reason for messing with the wires now wrong.

Guess at the sequence that could get you into this jam,

T

is the red wire original GM set up OR an added wire?
hook starter up without the red wire - let see what happens, what will not work,

something is missing- all of a sudden starter runs constant? were you fixing something- is there a remote starter? anything electrical added?
