I have a 1996 chevy C1500 Silverado 5.7l, approx. 322000 miles on truck. I just finished installing a new factory 5.7l engine in the truck, took awhile to get distributor set correctly for engine to start, but it finally did. Now here is the issue, the starter is engaging while the engine is running and it will start as soon as you turn the key to the run position, that is before it is suppose to start. I have replaced the starter and the relay still same issue. any suggestions?

About the only thing that can give you symptoms like that (only when key is on) is the ignition switch, assuming nobody has done any custom wiring here.
Also, make sure the purple wire is the only one on the small post of the starter. All the others go to the large post.

No custom wiring from what I can tell. Is there a way to test the purple wire to determine where it may be getting power from or where the issue may be. or to test the ignition switch itself. To be honest I have been considering replacing the engine harness all together due to the age of it mostly. Thank You for the response by the way.
