1997 GMC Sierra 1500

I own a 1997 GMC Sierra that is having an electrical problem. The truck lost speedometer and tachometer replaced the module at the transmission and some burned out fuses the gauges started to work again for about 10:00 minutes and then would stop. Replaced the module three times thought the first two might be a bad batch the third from different supplier. All did the same except for the third it stopped working after ten minutes but started working later in the day when had to move it the gauges were working once the truck cooled to air temperature. Have any of you out there encountered a similar problem or have an idea what or where the short could be happening at. Somewhere heat soak is creeping in and causing resististance but where any clues?

Not sure which module you are referring to at the transmission. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

That's nothing but a mechanical selector switch so your theory about "heat soak" is all wet. I’m trying to get to the bottom of this the shop where I took the truck to found it initially had some blown fuses and a bad neutral safety switch everything seemed good till after 10 minutes and stopped working burned out the switch. Installed one more did the same the third one from a different manufacture stopped like other two but when cooled down the problem with non working gauges started working again. This information I’m telling is what was explained to me. The mechanic said there must be a short and I tend to agree, the man who worked on it thought it would be best to take it to a shop who specializes in electrical problem. I would like to see if anyone has encountered a simular problem like this keeping me having to go 35 miles to this other shop.

I agree there probably is a short somewhere. These things can be very difficult to locate, especially when they are intermittent problems. Thought I would let you know 1997 GMC Sierra electrical short was located and fixed. Turned out to be the ignition switch that was the culperate a lose connection in this part caused a power drop and would affect the transmission performance and the gauges the gear selector, speedometer and tachometer to work intermently.
