I have a 1998 Ford Mustang 3.6L with 418430km. My battery meter on my dash started going low 6 months ago. Recently my battery light also came on. I noticed the lights, windows, wipers etc. started to slow as time went on. All indications that my alternator was going bad, so I changed the brushes. Didn't work so I put in a new alternator. Didn't work. Autozone ran a check and said my battery was bad. Put a new in and still didn't fix the problem. Autozone ran another check but this time said my regulator wasn't putting out. They ordered a new alternator. It was double checked before I installed it and everything registered O.K. Put the new alt. in and still had the same problem. The test said the regulator wasn't putting out. Autozone tells me they know the alternator is good. What else could be the problem? .

Let me understand this. Their own test told them that the regulator was bad but they say they know the alternator is good? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

That's correct. They said it tested fine off the car so it must be something on my car.

Check for power at the main terminal of the alternator with the KEY OFF. If you have no power, check all the fusible links.

?? The plugs of the car's harness used to be a common Ford problem. Can't say for this one but would check to see it they look burnt or any wiring issues right near it, T

I found a 20 amp fuse blown in the electrical dist. box underneath the hood. I would have needed the alternator but autozone cost me a battery. Anyway it's finally fixed. Thanks Hammer Time and all those who tried to help. jcovington
