We have a 1999 Buick LeSabre. The left headlight is not working. When you use the keyless remote, the headlight comes on, but as soon as you start the car, it goes off. You can't turn the light on manually either. The bright light works fine. Why would this do this? Buick dealer said the light alone costs $361 (for just the left light), that there would be an additional charge of $92 to run diagnostics to see if it was the headlight and then, if it was just the headlight, they would charge an additional $50 for labor to install the light. The mechanic said it takes one-half hour to put the light in and he gets $105/hr. and he was the cheapest mechanic there. That would be a total of $503 plus tax for just ONE headlight. My questions are: 1) has anyone run across this situation before; 2) Is there any cheaper way to go. We are on a fixed income and this is really a lot of money to pay for one headlight. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

Welcome to the board but please post just once! This probably just needs the headlight bulb replaced. A quick search found that there are separate bulbs for high and low beam and the remote may just trigger the low beam which is probably out. Just take it out and look at it - it will look gray-silver if blown and if so replace both sides if known to be the same age, T

Thanks for the replies. I can't believe the dealer would not have told us it might just be a bulb. Instead they said we would have to pay for a diagnostic test ($92), etc. Anyway we had it fixed (not at the dealer) and it is working fine. Thanks for your information.

DID I JUST READ THAT RIGHT? A dealer wanted to charge for a diagnostic test for a blown bulb! That's not even funny! T
