1999 Nissan Altima overheating? sputtering and dying Sign In

Hi
A few weeks ago I was rear-ended, my car seemed alright but 4 days later it overheated. We found a crack in the radiator. We installed a new radiator with no complications. However a few days later I was driving to work and the brake and battery lights started flickering, I got to work and parked the car. When I got out of work the car seemed fine but when a was about a mile from home the car started steaming. When we checked the engine we found that the radiator had no coolant, but the temperature gauge never came close to red lining. We added coolant, and couldn't find a leak. The car drove fine. This morning the car started fine but as soon as the lights and defroster were turned on the car lost power. We asked a neighbor for a jump, thinking it was a low battery, we got about a block away and the brake and battery lights came on and we started to lose power again. I hit the accelerator hard and we limped it to a parking lot. I have no idea what the problem is but any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Instead of just tossing a little coolant into it, you need to have the cooling system pressure tested for leaks and once no leaks are found, fill the system and get all the air pockets out. Then make sure the fans are working.
For the other issue you need to have the battery and charging system tested.

Thanks for the ideas, I was really hoping it would be one thing causing all of the problems. I'm not sure if it's even worth fixing.

You're not going to know until you start doing some testing.
