1999 Toyota Tacoma TRD Offroad V6 Engine with 256K Miles This has been an ongoing issue for a couple of years that has gotten progressively worse. Basically, when I turn the key in the ignition, it takes multiple times before it will start, sometimes as many as 15 or 20 times. The only thing that will occasionally happen in those 15 or 20 times is that my electric door locks will engage. This is after two years. When it first started happening it would maybe start after 2 or 3 tries. My truck does sit around unused a lot more now which could contribute to the problem worsening I guess. I've taken this in several times and no one can tell me what's wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try jiggling the gear selector. I had this problem before and it was because the sensor in the gear column was reading as if the car were not in Park. Try lifting or pushing the gear selector in the direction of Park.
