2000 Cherokee turn signal

I recently bought a used 2000 Jeep Cherokee 4.0.4x4. The turn signals (both directions) do not work consistently. There does not seem like there is any logical pattern to when they work properly. Sometimes they work, sometimes they work for a couple of flashes and then stop flashing, mostly when I turn them on they just stay on and the light on my dash does not flash. The emergency signals work fine. PS. So basically when I turn the turn signal 'on' the light on the dash and both the front and rear bulbs also come on but do not flash, and sometimes they do flash. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Marc

Have you ever gone outside of the vehicle to see if any of the lights are coming on without flashing? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

It's acting like a bad flasher but the hazard flashers share the same flasher and they are working so it has to be some type of incorrect bulb or ground problem. I'd look for one bulb that acts differentlly than the others.

All four bulbs seem to be as manufacturer recommended, so how would I check for a ground problem. Also when I am parked the problem seems to be less but does not completely disappear.

Are you sure the hazards work fine because it sure sounds like a bad flasher? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I just checked and the emergency signals are apparently not fine, they work when I first turn them on but then after 30 secs they both stop flashing.
