ok so my girlfriends hyundai just had the airbag light come on i know that it means the system is now disabled so i am in a hurry to bring it back i know to leve the battery unplugged for an extended amount of time so as to not disrupt the airbag system and accidently deploy the air bags so my questions are is this common in this particular year? where are the sensors and how would you check the condition and how weak are the seat belt tensioners as i know these are part of the srs system and there was a pretty large guy in the passenger seat when the light came on

It very well could have been caused by the seat belt. btw, do you know who your girlfriend was with? Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes should reboot the system, but you'll lose any BCM codes that were stored. If you can pull the codes prior, post them, and we'll see what we can come up with. Loren SW Washington

the guy was her 300 lb gay friend so i have no worries there lol but anyways i had it unplugged for a couple hours yesterday plugged it back in and started it up and the light came back on so that made me think more towards the body sensors i know some systems have blink codes and the air bag blinks a 51 if you could figure that out

In my code definition chart, I only see four digit codes beginning with B****. You'll need to scan the BCM to get the proper DTC. Under the passenger seat, you should see an electrical plug. Try unplugging it, resetting the computer again, and see what you get. Just for kicks. Loren SW Washington

wish i had a scan tool lol but i looked under the seats the drivers seat had a connector that i unplugged and replugged in and that didn't do anything and i didn't see anything under the passenger seat so thats what led me to maybe the tensioner in the passenger seat but i dunno how i would check that and i don't have the dough to just throw parts at it
