2002 Civic SI: engine start in cold weather Sign In

I had the starter replaced about one year ago by a Honda dealer (with a Honda refurbished starter). Normally the engine starts fine, but in cold weather, when I turn the key, nothing happens initially. I have to keep the key turned for a few seconds and then the engine starts normally. The battery is 2 years old and seems to be ok. I had similar problems last winter, when the battery was only one year old. The difference is the issue seems to be more serious now. I have to wait longer in order to get the starter running. I would tend to think that problem is with the new starter or the way it was installed. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Cold weather makes any small battery/starter ability that much harder, bring out weak items. Charge that batter with a charger AND clean connections plain looking at the corrosion if any to be removed.
It could use up a battery or a starter be in trouble AGAIN depends on lots of things. Don't use items in the car (if it will) to charge things/devices without it running. Cold times don't just run it short times to move it and shut down give it some time to self charge back up again.
If very harsh cold, outdoors exposed to wind and doesn't get used for a few or more days consider a automatic, floating battery maintainer if no power available use it every few days around the block type thing if possible for your situation.
Battery - If weak or charging system not up to par these electrical items are hard on each other also stresses a charging system.

All this stuff has to be kept it top shape all the time seems you are paying attention but not sure quite enough was really checked and done so far. It's old now lots of other things too those are a base minimum to know and keep up as best you can.

Hey - Check out things called a jumper box you carry to self jump start yourself. Keep those charged also know this stuff works best when at about room temperature not when cold also (below 32F and lots colder) electrical things are 1/2 the power or less of a warm day - know that,

Since it eventually starts on it's own, I doubt it is a low battery issue. I would more guess at a bad starter but the circuit needs to be tested while the problem is present.

Why the wait? Sometimes a weak connection gets HOT from trying then might work. Same with weak battery when cold. Some draw can warm it up (oddly) and it gains power. None of that good needs all of it right all the time anyway it's just cold bring it out but was lurking for a while and not caught in any checks?

Other is forcing it like you are is really just killing the weak item(s) will end up obvious when it croaks totally,
