2002 buick lesabre wiper motor(s) Sign In

It's a 2002 lesabre with a 3.8 and about 190,000 miles , the wiper motor/module quit at the worse time , this one lasted 13 months the one before that lasted 18 months ,, this will be the 3rd one does the dealer offer a better product , does anyone make a quality part you can depend on ? And lastly do you know if the module be replaced without removing the motor unit ? Thanks .

Just look at it. IDK - I'd look at the plug too if crusty junk somehow pick a plan of attack for that as I doubt it's quick or easy new if the source of the troubles. Other models this was a wild silent recall a few model years earlier so who makes the best fix unknown to me but never heard of this often rather just once,

You can replace the wiper motor cover without removing the entire motor transmission assembly.

The key is to figure out what actually failed. Best you're going to do is with AC Delco or the factory OEM part. Be sure the wiper module connector has its seal. It's important that the unit is sealed from weather or it will fail again. Also inspect the connector pins to be sure they are not damaged, burnt, or spread open.

O.k. thanks , I'll check it out , not a difficult job it's just that the thing should last longer I think , and it's not like a muffler or headlight where you can keep on truckin , if it's raining and you have no wipers it's actually dangerous , you can't drive like that unless you're chuck norris

My guess is the wiper motor itself is drawing too much current and overloading the module that operates it. I would change the whole assembly.

Delco brand parts are sold by Independent parts store at very reduced prices from the dealer.

I found a delco retailer nearby and that's where I'll be going , there was a more independent store " tri city auto parts " but they closed up , these manufacturers out source and may only put the thing together who knows

Dr. D - get acquainted with the best parts outlet you like for in person parts buying. Most will price match and say you want a certain brand for the things that really matter. This part has failed too many times so clearly quality of something about the part or earlier said the whole motor is at fault.
There are well trained parts folks can tell you what junk comes back too early as defective vs another and hope they are up to date on who really makes what.
Open an acct. if need be can save more hassles, pay on time save more. Fav for me remains NAPA locally not always the best price can and will get OE + dealer parts cheaper than you can and pass it on somewhat.
IDK - except for legal holidays and really slow moving parts can order by 10am and it's in by 2pm - usually for me. I still will do the "grocery store" parts outlets for certain name brand staple products, cleaners, sprays universal supplies. I do like having accts with frequently used places they track what you purchased and when or do for me.
Redoing same stuff more than once it's up to you to learn why the installation, diagnosis or the part was the reason,

right , that's why I was going to the tri city place the guy at the counter was on the same page with me on this sort of thing the chain stores were complacent , ie. "oh well what are you going to do " ? I can wait for a part if it means an alternative to junk . That's why I got 3 rides but what's happening now is I'm having a problem with all 3 but it's still cheaper than a new car , I don't want a t.v. screen on my dash . grrrr

Eh - we have sometimes discouraged the super chain parts outlets. IDK - Some seem just pass thru jobs on to other things no need to get to serious but it's cars, time, and sometimes quality at risk. Great, most are open late and even holidays.
Any particular one could be excellent or not by name. I've known my own for so long at a NAPA just trust them implicitly up to them saying this part isn't as good any more by name brand do XYZ instead is not common.

Ha - cost of new rubber cars vs keeping a known healthy old - up to your tolerance to these details. Just this year decided again a brand new something and put some serious bucks into an older one is going to save me about 75K all told so makes room for some serious work - rust fixes, and more. Laugh - it's a very HD snow plow truck I don't need vanity mirrors nor the 55" screen with all kinds of super data, Wi-Fi and who knows would be busted in no time?? Why do they do that?
What's next GPS on wheel barrels? If you want that fine but give me the option out of that junk.
Hey - for many have to have the newest all the time and might even make good use of it.
You do have know when it's time and not waste $$ and give up too,

Re: 2002 buick lesabre wiper motor(s) Sign In

the place I went to is an OE distributor a little more $ but not as much as the dealer , wipers are back ,, the independent that closed sold me an alt. for the 02 civic and that lasted 13 months so who knows , that's the second break down . , , the new wiper motor came with self tapping screws , not that they looked like them but that's what they did , there were no threads in the bores , expect the unexpected , after being outside doing this I thought about going with a new vehicle but for the money I'll keep what I have ,

Re: 2002 buick lesabre wiper motor(s) Sign In

What's with the "water pooling" problem? Possible defect in design or plugged up where it should drain? Windshield washer fluid is not green that I've ever seen so that's something else. Cold if so without a warmed up vehicle use of washers, melted ice from a little or enough engine heat things should drain on their own first before freezing. Windshield washer fluid is near always an alcohol base not to freeze will freeze quickly (most) once exposed to air the alcohol evaporates out leaving just mostly water - do know that. Tips where dispensed evap the last inch if not used for some time as well if cold enough so use up washer fluid it doesn't last exposed to air for long.

The "green" needs to be found out why is a color for antifreeze for the engine by some GMs use another color "green" doesn't normally belong in it at all they do sell colorless engine antifreeze said to be compatible with any isn't true IMO. In short find out why the green and what it is,

Re: 2002 buick lesabre wiper motor(s) Sign In

the small amount of green was at the top of the unit and more like an oxidation thing , , once I got it out there was a thin layer of ice on the bottom of the " pocket " it sits in so I guess some water gets in there somehow , May be the weather stripping ain't what it used to be . I think the short life of the old one has to so with quality , I heard someone only got 2 months out of one . At any rate that's why I clean the snow off on vehicles not on the road , the freeze and thaw lets any moisture ruin stuff .

Re: 2002 buick lesabre wiper motor(s) Sign In

IDK - Maybe copper something? Some real copper still used, wires or very few ground straps now a maybe used for the wiper motor?
I just didn't want to find out it's coolant and you don't want that for a problem. Weatherstripping? How long does it last? Can't really say except it doesn't like heat or sunlight and shouldn't really be so lousy if OE not to take engine heat.
It that's causing the problem go see if a used one is perfect some stuff like that says good some doesn't or too hard to remove without harming it?
Good luck. If it's all working for now there isn't much more to say on this,

That area has a built in drain and should never be holding water. The linkage smashing into ice is enough to cause your issues.
