2004 Buick LeSabre Battery Saver on while driving Sign In

I was given a 2004 Buick LeSabre 3.8L V6 4-speed Automatic. Lately, we've had a lot of cold weather and I noticed a few times that the battery saver mode would come on while I was driving but before I got where I was going it would go off and the charge would read at 14v.

Today it was -5 and I had the same problem but my dash also shut off, I had very little power coming out of a stop and thing just generally wigged out. Then just before I pulled into work everything came on and worked again, battery reporting at 14v.

My dad checked the wires and the belts and in his words "Can't find anything easy wrong with the car." I wanted to take it to get tested but have had a lot of problems with mechanics trying to do way more than necessary (and I can afford) anyone have an idea if its a battery, the alternator or something else?

? Not sure I know what you mean for a "battery saver mode" perhaps my fault?
First know if you routinely get below zero F. don't push it with age of a lead/acid battery of any brand or type is discharged or very low will freeze solid can feel one and it will not start. If you went thru that things are now a problem just saying dash lights went out.

Try this if it will start on its own at all is watch voltage before you touch a thing and again (this right at the battery known good connections) voltage alone still above 12v showing with nothing on. If not it's not up to par. Again check while cranking is a load test of it's own watch voltage drop while cranking bet it dumps way down like under 9v is too low.
Important: You must defeat interior lights and any hood light for these tests and a voltmeter or DVOM that's fast reading plus a helper to engage starter while you watch.
Battery over 3 years it's marked in code or clear embossed into it when it was made is when it was new not when it was sold - know that too. That's enough for age IMO pay no attention to manufacturer claims - IMO again.

One more: Do have the exact right motor oil for these conditions not even excessive yet for some nor where I live myself see this horror show way too much,

Yeah, I'd like to know what battery saver mode is also. No such feature.
