2005 Cadillac STS v8 stability system problems please help! Sign In

I have a 2005 Cadillac STS with some electrical problems. There is an intermittent problem that is causing the front brakes to activate out of nowhere. I'm getting a Service Stability System message (there is also a service tire monitor message but unrelated). It's capable of happening at any speed and usually lasts about 1-3 seconds before freeing up however there have been a handful of times where they locked up to the point of having to restart the car and on those occasions the car was going about 15 to 30 mph. Obviously this is very dangerous.

Here are the codes:
C0249
C0250
U2100
C0196
C0253
P1101
P0101
P0171
P0174

Some of these relate to the MAF and o2 sensors which have been replaced already although the engine light is still on but that could be anything and I'm not sure if you have to manually reset it.

I should also add that the Service Stability System message is not always on as well. It has gone days without appearing. Sometimes it will pop up without the brakes actually activating and sometimes the brakes activating will cause it to pop up, it's all random. Every time it has happened I have been going straight forward.

First thing is to see if there is an update calibration that might solve your P code issues.

TECHNICAL

Bulletin No.: 09-06-04-032A

Date: August 06, 2009

Subject: Check Engine Light On, DTC P1101, P0068, P0171, P0174 (Reprogram ECM)

Models:
2004-2006 Cadillac SRX, XLR
2005-2006 Cadillac STS
Equipped with Engine RPO LH2
Please Refer to GMVIS

Supercede:
This bulletin is being revised to change the labor time information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 09-06-04-032 (06 - Engine/Propulsion System)

Condition

Some customers may comment on an illuminated check engine light shortly after a cold start with no engine performance concerns. Upon inspection, DTC P1101 (Intake Air Flow System Performance) may be set. In some instances, DTCs P0068 (Throttle Body Airflow Performance), P0171 (Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1) and/or P0174 (Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 2) may eventually set as a result of the DTC P1101.

Correction

Verify the condition. If the diagnostics in SI for the conditions described above do not isolate a fault, reprogram the ECM with the revised calibration that has been developed to address this condition.

Verify that the multiple diagnostic interface (MDI) that is being used is configured to the PC that will be used.

Which module had the U code stored?

Sometimes U codes can be erroneous. If the U code kept coming back after clearing, then it might be something to look into.

The C0253 might be setting your stab light.

The following conditions can cause this concern:
^ Improper steering alignment.
^ Open, short to ground, or short to voltage.
^ Internal lateral accelerometer failure.
^ EBCM internal failure.

Someone is going to have to do some diagnosis of the circuits to isolate the fault.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
