2007 Dodge Caliber wont start
|
|

2007 Dodge Caliber SXT 2.0L I just finished putting my car back together after replacing the hydraulic pump in my transmission on my caliber. The valve that regulates the pressure on it was going bad. The car will not start and gives me a Dtc of p1607. Here are the symptoms. When I try to start the engine the starter will click at a medium pace and will turn off the dash and all electronics every time it clicks over. It also turns off the code reader that I have. Like the PCM turns of every time the starter clicks. If I leave the key in the on position, I can hear a hum from the flow control valve and a slight click from the starter at even intervals. I checked the pinout of the of the pcm connector with my light probe on the starting circuit and it was working properly as the service manual says it should. I can upload the guide for the dtc and upload a video of what the car is doing if needed.

Quote you "> When I try to start the engine the starter will click at a medium pace and will turn off the dash and all electronics every time it clicks over.<" By that you mean when starter tries it makes the solenoid flutter? Other lights are out normally a few stay on when starter is engages it's confused if fluttering as I said. I take it you disconnected battery to do work as all manuals say now think that's the issue first other info has to wait till you can get this to crank normally at least, T

Everything shuts off when the starter tries to engage. Lights, connection to my code reader, dash, everything. It doesn't turn over at all.

That sounds like just a dead battery or a bad connection at the battery. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I tried jumping it off with another battery to be sure. It still did the same thing. I can check the cables again, but everything seemed fine.

The rapid fire clicking is low amps to hold a spring in solenoids on purpose so an electric motor doesn't self destruct. Can be good looking connections that don't deliver the amps required or wires that are inadequate even if they look good. Can you test that going to starter yourself watch it drop off when load is on it. Best with a helper I never have so yank on wire to starter a little (no contest of strength for that) see if it snaps out of it for one start? Clue - that's the problem if it does, Tom

Brand new starter and i used a known good battery from another car. Still not working. The battery cables to the starter and the fuse box are good.

You need to stop telling us what is good and find what is not. Use a voltmeter with someone else trying to start it to see where the voltage drop is.

The battery is at 12.25 volts, when attempting to crank the car it only drops to 11.76 volts. It isn't shorting out. There isn't a short on the line to the starter either, nor an open. The solenoid is just clicking on and off and the motor wont spin. The only other line is to the tipm.

This is very obviously beyond your understanding and you need to get it to a competent shop. You're going to hate yourself when they tell you they found a bad connection.

You're just proving my point. There is no ground wire on the starter. You go ahead and ground that wire. I'll call the fire department now. It looks like you think you know better than us so I will just close this out now and let you fix it yourself. One more time............... you have a bad connection somewhere.
