It's very cold where I am and my Pontiac Torrent wouldn't start after not being plugged in for the night (no big surprise there). We attempted to boost it with no luck. Testing the battery shows it has full power but no power is getting to anything in the vehicle (no dash lights etc). When we accessed the battery we came across a wire that wasn't connected to anything (looks more like it's worn through, not cut). It was too cold and late in the day to spend much time looking but we couldn't find anywhere it might have been connected to. Tomorrow we will be checking fuses, starter etc but I thought while we wait I'd try to find some sort of clue online as to where that wire should go. Any ideas? I do have an after market remote starter so not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Notes: Batttery sticker says it was first filled new in November, 2014 on the green sticker is what that means.
You said you show power and even "boosted" this and get NOTHING.
Those cheap end non lead (Pb) "U" bolt clamps look cheap but original. The crimp that holds wires to the vehicle looks factory but lousy to me in the way it was done. So be it. Check that voltage or continuity gets from battery post to U bolt on to wire inside that crimp. Bet is doesn't make electrical contact but does by eye.
That thing the glove is pointing to looks more like just stray wire protection hollow shielding not with a wire in it at all is there?
Hey - pretty good pic for a hard to post site for pictures on a cold night too. I can see the design problem of the cable ends which might have been replaced with splicer ends already and bent down like that or originals bent down like that doesn't matter it's a lousy way to do that IMO.
GM has used mostly side post batteries and cables for ages and this appears like a switch and how they faked it and the spot where power would likely be cut off right there.
Hey - suks working in super cold but try just finding where power drops off as said. Make sure it's fixed to make a strong non intermittent connection when done as it might just work if you twisted on all that but at this model year age you risk it running and losing connection while running which creates more troubles than just this,

(edit in more) Hey - another look at bare copper wire cables poorly crimped into "U" bolts! That's trouble just looking at those. Do solder the copper fine wire to the bent down end of those "U" bolts. Better replacements are available than that. Positive cable doesn't even look finished crimping just second band of metal to hold wire in place. Looks lousy whether original or those already replaced you can make them better than that.........

OMG - I believe that unfortunately but battery should be embossed too in plastic how old it is. Virtually none will survive if real air temps are low enough AND are dead. They would bloat or crack and leak. Only a handful would take any charge and seems no matter this one did something?
Those terminals would explain why nothing reacts like it has a battery at all with a jump that may have seriously reacted like connecting a dead short.
Batt didn't appear original and those clamps if original is an embarrassment probably replacements.
Everything points to no current makes it out of this battery w jump start or mot even to explode or something! Keeping in mind possibly VERY cold exposure recently or in it's history,

Yes, and if you compare the stamped date to the sticker, it will differ by 3,4,5,6 or more months.
Sicker = stale battery

Got you and learning and will ask from the one person at NAPA I've bought batteries from since forever. Always checked out in full before I leave and recharged on bench before installations. Took last one back as it would NOT read 12.6V two hours after trickle charge, auto shut off on bench never installed and the next one behaved. A few meters to check meter being wrong too.
It's all important. I still want to know why this case in this thread passes no power to anything now seeing it's a top post battery where's the disconnect? Anything, a light from opening a door - something?
That thing glove was pointing to in picture didn't look like wire to me at all but rather just the protective split cover put on some to protect wires no clue why there or if a wire was ever in it or is now?
So much on this I would know fast if right there like you would too. Either this battery is so dead it sucks all the possible juice out of being jumped or nothing gets beyond the U-Bolt clamps. If it runs at all is another whole thing but haven't passed just this yet!
