2009 Santa Fe Alternator Sign In

Hello

So a few months ago my Santa Fe alternator went out due to a bad flaw in the design . I believe it was a recall or something. The oil leaks all over it. It def not under warranty. I bought it from my wifes mom for 1,000. Anyways I didn't take it to my usual mechanic . My dad knew another guy . From what I remember he didnt do the full job but just put in another alternator. I think the full job is taking the engine out and sealing up the leak . So in your professional opinion how long will that alternator last? I mean the first one last forever as far as I know.

You seem to just be asking how long this one will last? IDK and can't be known. Do you see oil now on this one? If so maybe just ask the place that did it warranty or not what you can do to mitigate that?
If a recall and warranty was all about this that would be done long ago I would think anything new should have been noticed this time to prompt a cost/estimate to take care of that separately??

Re: 2009 Santa Fe Alternator Sign In

The place that did it was just a guy that had a shop, I did smell buring that smelled like Electrical the other day. Now today the battery light is on . which has me kind of mad because I am starting to think that maybe I should have had the whole job done where they seal up the leak. I just would have thought if the first one would have lasted this long, a new alternator would have lasted at least a few years even with oil dripping on it. No I havent looked to see if oil is on it as I am at work and just happened this morning but I am about to go out and look right now. When I first called my main mechanic he told me it was a fire hazard.

OK: If that odor is from alternator for any reason that sure could be a fire hazard. I/we still don't know why if sure that oil on it what?
Battery light is a "NOW" warning so please get charging system checked ASAP you could be in immediate trouble of not charging at all no time to waste.

How long to alternators last is unknown to me. Same with battery can harm each other an educated guess to do both or one depending on the emergency if so.

Know that replacement alternators can be "rebuilt" from an old one or also a clone sold as new not the same brand new vehicle OE quality. Mixed luck with all this stuff.

The oil if difficult to fix the leak if in fact was the recalled problem may or may not pay again? That you'd have to know for that's it and check with a dealer.

FOR TODAY, A SUNDAY! YOU HAVE A PROBLEM NOW IMO. I can't know where you are or what's available but you need this looked at with potential of fire and a battery warning light on it's not dependable to get you there or home again for anything IMO.

See what you can do to have it looked at in person so you don't end up towing it or know that you may have to save yourself the surprise and troubles,

If you had one alternator die due to oil leaking on it and you didn't fix the leak, then of course it is going to ruin another one even faster because the leak has gotten even worse.
