2015 Chevy Cruze Theft Deterrent System Sign In

When we try to start the car we occasionally get a check theft deterrent system message. So far, after three or four trys it has always started. I have disconnected battery cables to try to reset and sat in car and locked and unlocked it with key fob. I intend to have the battery load tested tomorrow. Have also tried two different keys and that didn't seem to make any difference. Anybody know how to fix this problem or better yet try to completely bypass the entire system. Thanks! approx 60,000 miles and 1.8l engine

You probably have a Passlock sensor starting to fail. That would require replacing the ignition lock and reprogramming the system. This is beyond your ability and it will require a professional with the right equipment to diagnose it correctly.

Thanks for the reply. I think it actually says "service" system instead of check. Battery tested fine. Will any garages' code reader/computer show if this Passlock sensor is the problem or does it need to go to a Chevrolet garage? Should it show up even though it is only doing it occasionally? Would it be cheaper to take it to a locksmith? Thanks again!

A locksmith might be an option. Definitely not a simple code reader. You need professional level scan tools and probably dealer level for the programming.

Update: Took it to the dealer today. Daughter had some sort of door entry (magnet)? hanging next ignition switch. We are hoping this is what was causing the problem! They said computer says replace keys. One key is a year old or less! Hope we don't have any more problems. We shall see.

Did someone try to steal the car?
