My son has a 87 Mercury Sable with only 46K original miles. Engine runs great. Problem: Starting is hit or miss. And it sometimes shuts off while running. Has all new fuel system. New alternator. New battery. Full tune up. Somedays it starts....somedays it won't? Has to be a Electrical problem...right?? Anyone else run into this problem? Thanks in advance Dave<<<<<perplexed Dad

Dave; Need a bit more specifics. Does it die while 'driving down the road', or when coming to a stop? Starting; Does the engine crank over, but not start? Does it act like it's got a dead battery? Loren SW Washington

Thanks for responding! It sometimes just dies while driving. Pull over...wait a few minutes and it starts up again. Then at times, won't start at all. The engine turns over but just won't start. Has a brand new battery and alternator.

Dave; Need to determine if it is lacking fuel pressure or spark at the time it dies. Loren SW Washington

Dave; You need to find out if you are lacking spark when it dies. The ignition control modules on these vehicles are always suspect, but without testing, it's just a guess. Loren SW Washington
