I bought an 87 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 with a plow. I brought it home and it started several times for me. Then I went out and it wouldn't even turn over. I bought and installed a new battery, and the truck started and ran for a few times. Then it stalled and wouldn't turn over again. I got it started with a boost, but wouldn't start on its own. I replaced the alternator. I still had to boost to start but I let it run for at least 20 mins and it will not charge the battery. The truck runs without the battery connected and once I get a good connection when I boost it, it fires right up fine. The truck has 93k on it. Any help would be appreciated.

First - never run a vehicle without battery connected. You did cause a problem if it didn't have one. Check alternator for output which I expect is nothing then have it tested. It may have blow wire to battery AND no good anyway now, T
