Ok. 1989 Mitsubishi Galant, 2.0, single overhead cam (if matters). Started with bad crankshaft position sensor, replaced distributor, upon completion battery dead. Jumped, battery kept dying with sitting. Bypassed something per manual by jumping with ground attatched to block. No change. Move ground terminal slightly and would crank right up. After this, for a few days no probs other than weak buzzers when door open.....figured just needed to scrub negative terminal. Driving down road this morning, clock goes out about a minute before car loses all power. Hubby replaced altenator, no fix. (I just got this info myself) Turns out when jumped with cable on block, manual said would bypass the fuse on the battery so said hubby removed the fuse Blush. Do we just need this fuse or is there something more sinister going on? Once again, thank you awesome souls. You rock!

PS.....once got car started after replacing distributor, clock would reset with every start and radio acts as though theres a short somewhere....when it turns on it'll pop on and off

Battery has to be known good and connections known clean and good. You may have just an old battery that couldn't take the trauma and now the new alternator might even have suffered so check output voltage at least on it for now,
