91 Geo Prizm Stereo Problem

I just bought a 91 Geo Prizm, very good condition for its age, the seller also gave me 160 w speakers and a new cd player stereo to come with it. I removed the old tape stereo by removing the trim ect. ect. hooked up the wiring ( had to cut off the wires and hook them on a new port since the old stereo is not the same as the new one. I hooked it up and got it working, and then i tried to put it in and it stoped working, i checked the wires they are good just as i had it when it worked. I dont know what i've done, i had it working till i tried to put it in the slot it goes in to hold the stereo.

Did you check to see if one of the fuses blew?
