200,000 miles on it , wipers come on but may stop , then come back on and work pretty much normal when you turn the switch , Does the motor have a module ? could it be the switch ? Thanks .

Really can be any of those things. It has a pulse module attached to the motor but it could just as easily be the motor. The switch is possible but not real likely with these symptoms. It would probably be best to replace the motor and module together. There is actually a recall that may apply here RECALL 98V150001: WINDSHIELD WIPER DEFECT Light duty pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, 2 and 4-wheel drive. Solder joints near the wiring harness connector can crack causing the windshield wipers to work intermittently. This condition can result in inoperative wipers, reducing a driver's visibility, and increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Dealers will replace the wiper motor circuit board and cover. Owner notification began December 15, 1998. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC at 1-800-462-8782. Also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

1994! Look for a grounding to how it mounts just anyway on GM wiper motors (or any) they use more power than we think about much. There was a recall (OMG remember that new - 1st several years) most folks already replaced motors GM gave you $$ back if you did pay for a fix off warranty or on but stuck to do something. Too long ago for a defect IMO original good ones would be proud to have them last this long at all, T

If it ever stops raining I'll take a look and possibly find a problem I imagine it's easy access , It's in good condition for it's age and still gets rubber on wet pavement , the only holes in the bed are the 2 weep holes ., I've talked to other newer chevy truck owners that got worse mileage than me . It gets about 13 mpg

As I recall new warranty was 3/36K most made it over that. Was just a chip that messed up so tossed for then re-mans already updated. Got all $$ back BUT THAT WAS STILL IN THE 90s! IDK this late? If you know it's original (could be) it's still likely solved with motor is a pest - trust me to get to. It's a chance to lube the rods that go side to side is also how you adjust the sweep if wrong for it be careful not to bust air grate brittle from years and sun. 13MPG is all you'll get unless super steady HWY speed (legal) no hills or wild loads I was measuring 17-18 at best w 700R trans that locks up, T

I got the new motor with module in and it's good , pretty easy job , the retainer clip for the wiper arm would also hold the arm unloaded for easy alignment I though that was clever , the arm is keyed and only goes on one way , they give you a little adjustment room at the motor arm & linkage where small rusted bolts are ready to snap

Right! Good for you. Trick, put some grease, on the small star that matches inside of wiper (keyed - yes) so they come off easy. That tap to hold them up off windshield be careful to put wipers back down or if you open hood scratches AND bust a wiper, Tom

The wipers arms came off pretty easy , I called the dealer and the only recall was a brake light switch from 1999 and this truck had it done , all this from the last 8 #'s of VIN. , the motor was mounted on grommets with no ground , I had the compressor out and blasted out all the crap also went inside the door jambs at the bottom of the fender where it likes to settle , it's how I roll . The biggest thing for me is making sure the wipers are shut off when you park in the winter so they don't come on and have to deal with ice and snow at start up .

OH YES - shut off wipers ALL the time you shut down. If stuck in ice/snow they keep trying wrecks motors - folks use them thinking they'll clear off all that - WRONG of course! !! Tom
