Hello. Just found this site and don't know if anyone still looks here. I have a problem with my 94 s-10 4x4 blazer. 1 day ago i cranked it up and it made a sound as if the flywheel was missing. I drove it home and parked it. 2 hours later i went to start it up and it wouldn't crank. I had power from the battery going to everything. I left it alone and tried 2 more hours later. It still wouldn't crank. I tried 1 time and held it a second and a spark then a flame came up from the alternator and i lost power to my radio electric seat and all instrument panels. I still have power going to my headlights dome and horn. I have checked all fuses and as far as I can tell they are all fine. By the way I had this problem before and replaced my battery, battery terminals and starter. Now it's just sitting and I don't know where to go from here. If anyone has any electrical diagrams for all circuits please let me know or email them to kezfam@yahoo.com. Thanks

sounds like a hot wire (either from the battery to the starter ; or the large wire on the alternator) has shorted to ground. common thing on these old gm's. if the alternator caught fire I'd suspect that wire first. chase them down looking for chafed or melted points. that's where you'll find the problem. pinch points or near places where work has been recently done are prime suspects. alternator on fire will call for a replacement. everything else being out is most likely due to fuses blowing when the short occured.
