95 s10 running rough after repair
|

My 95 s10 wasn't getting any fire. I replaced battery, dist cap and rotor, nothing. replaced ignition coil. started but runs rougher than it used to purr, now its shaking the cab. I checked the spark plug wire order and i believe theyre correct. help please

Whatever engine double, triple check firing order if it was recently running fine and now rough with what of the parts tossing fixed the no spark condition.

Cap or rotor wrong - generally they are indexed to fit just one spot properly. If you didn't feel that spot you broke one or the other or both upon first crank of engine.
What engine? "S" series trucks used a few possible.
So if running at all but poorly you might have firing order correct just one ahead or behind and wires still went on.
Other is with 4 cylinder engines note #1 and #3 would be right but if you didn't pay attention to direction of rotation #2 and #4 are opposite and they can still run but real lousy. Cough - guess I wouldn't know that if I hadn't done that once!
Don't turn distributor as we don't know which engine yet. If you did that's trouble.
Go easy tossing parts at things like this problem. Try hard to know which is the true culprit so new stuff doesn't confuse the show if defective or somehow broke/cracked/carbon tracing you lost your best chance to be sure problem is gone,

it is the 4.3l TBI 6cyl. I appreciate the last paragraph, i was following someone elses lead on this.

OK - 4.3 probably would run if you jumped forward or backward one wire at a time and still run poorly. Hopefully distributor cap you have is marked with a #1 and then do firing order check or know it's off or not - just rule that out if even possible that it is.
Indexed parts will bust new if not exactly in proper spot. IDK - can't think of any cap and rotors on much of anything that are NOT indexed with a notch, or some method that proves it's on properly.
New - reason is so much stuff is junk it scares me. Ignition parts that carry high voltage just in handling new before you or you if dropped, mishandled can be bad out of the box and look good.
You can test or see the problem high voltage parts usually not the issue now as it wasn't sparking at all and now is just not properly so finding where it went wrong is the job at hand,

Do you have the flat cap with the wires facing to the side or the conventional cap with the wires pointing up? That truck came both ways.
