Ok, my husband had to replace an air conditioner part and had to pullthe dash to do it. Good news is the air works great now, but the key would not come out of the ignition. So, he replaced tbe ignition cylinder, thinking it was bad, but the new one does not release the key either. The key turns on and everything, it just won't release. I'm thinking something got knocked loose when they pulled the dash. Any ideas?

Haven't had the nightmare of replacing an evaporator which does require dropping the dash on these. I can guess with the key that the mechanical means, perhaps rods down to ignition switch not the lock cylinder is bent such that it doesn't index the total OFF spot in the right place.

Begs the question if this starts, stays on run properly and if you turn key backwards get the ACC. position? Maybe not quite right. Bet if it runs you can pull the key out by passing what you think is the total OFF spot but may leave it in the wrong spot and things empowered still so can't.

To do the job I think done you drop steering column down on the seat then tilt whole dash down - shouldn't need to be removed but all kinds of things are stressed in doing that.

I do know first hand, this exact dash and model year that the dang rods and controls for just the actuator for air flow selection you can bust up with a finger like nothing and impossible to easily fix, parts new known not available as I've been there done that.

If this is HD everything you may NOT have an airbag or maybe no remote for key which makes it tons easier to fuss with.

None are but this isn't a very friendly dash to dig into,

There is a cable coming from the shifter to the ignition lock for the shift interlock to prevent you from locking the steering wheel when not in park. That cable could be damaged or not installed correctly.

Glad to hear it worked.
Closing this now as solved.
