I have a 97 v6 auto firebird. Just bought it, gotta get it inspected. It is.....*sigh* possessed. First, the headlights sometimes stay up, or one will go down, and the motor was staying on longer than it should have for the drivers side. one. So I flipped them up and just disconnected the motors (now they stay up regardless and i can just flip the switch to off without the motors engaging). I figured that would work. Next, I noticed the switch is messed up on the inside. When I turn it to Off, they stay on. When I turn it to Parking lights, they go off. My battery is always drained. I can jump the car and it'll work but if I turn it off and turn it back on, it dies and clicks. My radio has only like 2 lights that sometimes come on when the headlight switch is turned to park. Sometimes the clock stays on. There is a clicking under the passenger side dash, so I took that off and found the relay or whatever it is called with a few wires in it, it clicks arbitrarily for no reason. The other day I opened up the passenger side door, the keys were not in the ignition, and it started to click. The tail light turn signal recently burned out. I replaced it, but the turn signal doesnt flash.... It also needs a new drivers side high high beam. whats going on with this?? I also checked fuses but I'm lost on how to pinpoint anything.
-Battery is new
-No mechanical problems

Total guess: The headlight switch is likely or a ground problem. If the socket of the bulb looked ok it probably is but it could cause funky problems too, T

It sounds like the headlight switch or a body control module problem. The common denominator here is the clicking. There are various relays here that when you turn the headlight switch on a signal is sent which pulls in the relays. They do click when actuated. But, also, there is a computer called a Body Control Module which receives signals and turns relays on and off also. It is hard to tell without having the vehicle here in front of me. This can be a complicated diagnostic process if you don't have auto electrical experience. I would say take to a shop that specialises in electrical and diagnostic work.

is that body control module the same thing as the ecm?

No. The body control module is a separate computer that controls body functions such as interior lights, radio, anti-theft, daytime running lights, etc...
