When starting the engine cranks slowly to the point where i think its about dead. Then suddenly it cranks faster and starts. (All while keeping the key in start position). Replaced starter with reman starter. Still has same issue. Truck has 260,000 miles on it but has been maintained very well for last 12 years. Lights etc seem fine.

No mention of the obvious here. Have the battery test for health.

? Of course a known good battery: Add to that on these the cables and ends. Ground(s) to block - add one or more. Check existing ones all over this (own one) cheap crap zinc straps give out toss and make your own exact spots do include both body metal and frame seen right down near starter that one busts or gone long ago.
Side post battery ends peel back or bust off any now hard and brittle if OE to see eyelet inside. Those and others like that make the routine of keeping those greased had to be or newer a few times now if not tended to.
Too common "other" on my list is the dang new/reman starter has the same problem it was traded in to solve now you have it just nice looking again but works bench tested,

Sounded like the battery has a dead cell.

Yes - that right now is #1 chance. It's all the rest by now most already died out, not fixed, junked or tended to - had to be. The grounds are zinc crumble in my hands make dust - nice.

All thing like any - even the exhaust to read + ground again the beds are NOT grounded well enough, IMO.

Not witnessed is the "R" code 5.7 (Chev 350) in these were snapping off a corner of engine blocks (GAME OVER FOR THAT ONE) by starter FORCE so strong! Doubt it's recorded how many heard of as somewhat common were newer still big time. Engine tossed or could work a starter with just one bolt! Not see just heard of the trick,
