1999 Chevy Caviler Z24 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 125000 miles

The problem began when my car started stalling out at stop lights. The lights would dim and rpm's would drop. This problem was especially appearant after exiting the highway. Ofter I would have to put the car into neutral and rev the engine to keep it alive at stop lights.

Then one day after leaving the market, the car would not start at all. It wouldnt turn over, and there were no dashboard lights.
I tried to jump it and that didnt work. We checked to make sure that the battery had a charge and it did.
A repair shop towed it in to check it out.
They said after they got it to the shop it started up fine, without them doing anything to repair it.
Then they ran an electrical analysis and determined that all systems were working fine.
They then proceeded to give me a bill of $120 and sent me on my way.
When I got it back the stalling problem was gone and the RPM's never dropped at the light again. I asked them again if they did anything to repair the car and they said no.
Then, later that same day, it wouldn't start again; I put the key in and nothing happened. I then proceeded to try again a minute later, and it started up just fine.

NOW, the problem is back. I tried and tried and tried to start it. waited til the next morning and tried some more, but no dice. IT wont turn over there are no dash lights or anything. (if the door is open with the keys in the ignition, it still DINGS to warn be that my keys are in the car, so the car must have some type of power)

I'm hoping that someone on this forum can offer up some advice, since these shops are clearly giving me the run around.

Intermittents are always tough to track down when they aren't acting up. There are certain tests that you can run on some of the systems to see if a part is starting to fail that may cause the problem but if the car acting up then at that point it's just an educated guess.

Did they tell you if there were any stored codes in the computer? When the car wouldn't start was the security light flashing?

From your post it really sounds like you gave them some good info. I'm assuming they checked all the normal stuff associated with this type of problem, power feeds, ign sw, charging system, battery, etc.

The one other thing that would really help to find the problem is if you can notice ANY type of pattern to the problem. This would help the tech to be able to duplicate the problem and track it down.............

they didnt give me any stored codes.
There is no security light when trying to start it (no lights at all in fact)

if there is any pattern at all. it might be that my car is typically parked on an incline.
WE tried rolling it back in neutral a bit then start it, but that did not work either.

sould it be starter or ignition problem or is it likely something else( a more subtle electrical problem)

With all the problems you listed it doesn't sound like it's simple starter or ign system problem. It's possible that all problems are unrelated but usually when you get 2 or more things that all fail at the same time where there was no problems before, they are usually connected.

Problems like this can be tough to find online, I would probably start at ign switch, check the connecters, wiggle some wires to see if it has any affect, see if there is anything visual that could be a problem before breaking out the meters.....
