Am I testing this right?

Further to my previous post about my failed heater blower, I just want to check I am using my multimeter correctly when checking power supply to motor.

I am a complete amateur at this so please excuse my ignorance!

There are two plugs which connect into the resistor pack on the fan motor and then one cable linking the resistor pack to the motor it self. The chunkier looking cable and plug I believe should be the positive and negative feed and the less chunkier looking cable and plug I believe is coming from the digital controller.

I have checked the negative / earth for continuity by using the ohms setting and connecting one probe to the black cable of and the other node to an earth on the body. This reads out 0.00 which I understand to show continuity.

I then set the multimeter to 20 V DC and connected the black probe into the negative supply and the red probe into the positive supply of the same connector plug. This reads 0.00 when the fan set to be on.

Does this confirm that there is no power getting to the motor?

Wish you had followed your original thread and not a new one. THIS BLOWER MOTOR GOT WET AND DIDN'T WORK AFTER DRYING WAS THE JIST.

OK, I if you just want to know if motor works or not why all the meters? Just apply power and ground directly to the motor if at all possible and see if it turns at all.

For the moment I'd leave the resistor out of it,

Apologies for starting new thread Blush

I will try motor with direct power feed as suggested but need to get hold of some suitable cabling to try this.

Was just trying to check that there was power getting to it.

General as I recall this vehicle not sold in the US. 12v plain motors frequently will have ONE spot to apply 12v and either a spot for ground(earthing) or ground the body of the motor. Could be a separate battery on a work bench with jumper clips or whatever to just know the motor spins at all. Resistors are for adjusting speed/volume of air a blower motor would deliver.

Most or many can fail to just high speed not sending lesser voltage to slow it down but could be other methods involved.

Said. Just know if the motor is working or not. Most are not serviceable, Tom
