2001 Mazda Tribute 170,000 miles Off and on, my interior lights on my automatic window controls stay on. sometimes they are faint, other times they are bright. One week, they'll be on each day, the other week, they won't stay on. My emergency brake light sometimes stays on when I'm driving, even if the emergency brake is off. I believe this slowly drains the battery. I have had to have it recently jumped a few times, then I'm good to go for a week. Several service centers have "fixed" it and it's OK for a few months then it starts doing it again. Not sure if there's a button i'm pushing to keep these lights on (checked my manual and didn't see anything) or if my electrical system is slowly failing.

Have you checked the fluid level in the master cylinder? Low fluid level or a problem in the red brake warning lamp circuit can cause the lamp to come on too. You'll need to perform a parasitic draw test to confirm if you have excessive draw and to determine what is causing the excessive draw to occur. You could have a problem inside the instrument cluster. The cluster detects when the parking lamps are on and turns on a transistor that provides power to the illumination lamps. The red brake warning lamp coming on and the draw could be related. Diagnosing the problem would confirm that theory. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
