Battery Drain While Disconnected Normal? Sign In

G’Day Guys
I have a 2014 Nissan Qashqai TL. I dont drive it much as I work from home. Recently the battery has been going flat quite a lot. In the manual it says to disconnect the Negative to stop the battery from draining.
I disconnect the battery leave it for two to three days and find that the battery is still draining. For example in three days it drained from 12.45v to 12.36v is this normal?
Thanks

OK, first thing is this forum is based in the US and we have no specific info for this vehicle.

In general,

No, it is not advisable to disconnect the battery. That will cause the operating system to lose all it's learned memory and will effect the way the car runs when reconnected and other functions that require memory.

All batteries will lose some charge from sitting so your approach to this should be to have the battery tested for health, not simply current voltage.

Assuming this is an original battery, it is now over 6 years old and far overdue for replacement anyway.

Once you have a healthy battery, only then can you determine if there is an excessive parasitic drain on it.

That battery having gone "flat" so many times is junk already liquid, lead-acid batteries don't tolerate that. So, I suggest now to get a battery trickle charge/maintainer that automatically shuts off. Does require access to a power source from wherever you leave it or purposely have to use it more?

HT was right it's not good to keep disconnecting them in fact outdated would be for stored machines out of use for a season type maybe take battery inside or elsewhere type thing?

Its still the original battery, the car has only done under 14000km and i dont use the Stop Start function. The battery is an EFB battery would i still need a AGM charger?

Just have the battery tested as I advised.

I took the car to Battery World he tried to test it but couldnt, he said there is not enough charge in the battery. Im now thinking about buying dedicated AGM charger. Whats the max amps for a trickle charger?
Thanks

"An original'' battery to a 2014 vehicle? That's WAY too old just get new - they (some outlets) dump new batteries at a year old if unsold and should.

AGM charger means for an AGM battery doesn't vent is a different way to make a lead-acid battery is expected to last longer plus they don't spill or mind vibrations or even being installed upside down others would short out.

"They can't test it till charged" Right so a 2AMP automatic should be faster that's rated for AGM if you go there and probably should or sealed ones that don't flake and self destruct like a dandruff build up at bottom just piles up and self shorts them out.

Batteries are perishable really don't like ever being low on charge plus a list including higher temps, fast charging, AGE alone and can't freeze if discharged anytime.

A universal problem is how they get handled before you get one. No trauma, dropping them or harsh handling you just don't know getting new ones.

All are marked with a date showing month and year made clearly or in code can be found out yours could be from 2013 if not it croaked in it when new and a new one put it to sell it like untold zillions of unsold cars/trucks right now will be trashed can't just sit idle there's a trickle drain expected once installed.

Read any type battery you have for anything - a device or a vehicle. Nobody reads the print saying "Charge for 24 hours before first use" on almost all of anything and nobody ever does!

Do charge it before you have it installed I trust that's the problem,
