Battery charge dropped while charging

I started charging battery at 7V. Almost two days later I got it up to 11.5V. When I left it for another night, in the morning the charge dropped to 9V. What happened, and can this happen? Or, is there something wrong with my charger?

Sure it can. The battery is junk. Go buy a new one.
