Brake lights staying on

04 Volkswagon Golf TDi, 2 litre diesel. The fault is: the brake lights are staying on. I have replaced the brake switch but the lights are still staying on.

General switch concept: They frequently are a plunger/motion sensing of the arm of the brake pedal - you were just there and should have seen that. It may just be out of adjustment OR perhaps a rubber stop for upward motion of the pedal is allowing pedal to return just enough too high out of range of adjustment. See if lights go out with the switch unplugged and that it isn't some other fault - not likely IMO. Know that car may not shift out of park with the switch unplugged to even move it for working on! T
