Buick Le Sabre not starting

Hi, my name is Natalia and I found your page via Google. I am having trouble with my car and can't seem to find any help elsewhere. I have a 1988 Buick Le Sabre, which I purchased about 3 weeks ago. Starting about a week and a half ago, the car wouldn't always start. My boyfriend remembered that his last car made the same noises, and his way of making it go was hitting the steering wheel and adjusting the steering wheel up and down. Our mechanic friend (who lives 2 hours away) has been unable to come look at it, but says it's got to be something with the wiring around the ignition or just the wiring in the steering column, because that would be why hitting and adjusting the steering wheel would get it to go. However, this morning I tried for at least 30 minutes and it wouldn't start. We need to fix it before it gets worse, and we're pretty broke. What would be the easiest and cheapest way to fix this problem? Do you think that this is the cause of the problem? I'd appreciate any help you could give. Thank you very much for your time. Sincerely, Natalia Temperio

Hi and Welcome to Carjunky! For starters clean up all the connections to battery (both ends of cables) and wiring connection at the starter with neg battery disconnected while you do that. This can be done with scrap of sand paper or steel wool. You said you were on a tight budget and this part should cost almost nothing. May need more or a part but folks are here to help, T
