2001 Dodge Stratus sedan 2.4 LTR DOHC 161400 miles. I'm having a problem with the radio / heater & a/c. While driving the instrument cluster went nuts, all gauges went to the top and to the bottom several times then they were fine. Since then (over a year) the radio has a pulsing dit, dit,dit coming through the speakers even when off (and it won't work when it's making that noise) and the heater vents are constantly moving from floor to panel to defrost. The only time they work is if the outside temp is under 50 degrees and I turn them on right away. If I turn off the engine after warm up or turn off the radio it will not work until everything is under 50 degrees. The heater & a/c work periodically, the heat will stop then come on later same with the a/c and the blower control now only works on 3 & 4. Everything else is working fine, it easily passed smog and I just put 4000.00 into a new tranny, struts, and front suspension. Should I contact a priest to get rid of the demon in my dash? PS: The car not been in an accident.

What is the condition of the terminals on the battery? If they are corroded or looking bad, clean them up or replace. Watch the charging system voltage with a volt meter. Also check for AC voltage leaking out of the alternator. Check body grounds and make sure they are clean and tight.

Another thing to look at would be watching what the ignition switch voltage does before and after the switch. You can also voltage drop the ignition switch to see if you have excessive resistance going on. You'll need an ignition switch schematic to find out which circuits to check out.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thanks for the information, everything checked out and I have found out it's a consistent problem with that model radio and needs to be replaced. I try replacing the heat/air controller as well. Thanks again.
