Car tries to start by itself on the "ON" position. Sign In

Hello all! I have a 2006 chevy impala 3.5. Before I get started, there were NO signs leading up to this problem, it just started out the blue.

Last night I take my battery out to tape the ground wire because it had a cut in it and now was showing. I put everything back as before. But now when I put the keys in the "on" position, my car tries to start on its own, without me even trying to crank it. A few times I had to disconnect the battery because it will continue to try to crank itself even on the "off" position. I was able to run a test on it, it came back with this code- P0690 ECM/PCM Power Relay Sense Circuit High.

My father-in-law said it might be my ignition switch.

Even and all help is greatly appreciated! Thank yall in advance!

First off why on earth were you taping up a ground wire? The entire car is a ground wire.

I wouldn't be looking for any new problems. Go back over what you did. There has to be a mistake there somewhere.

Hello! Thank you for the reply. I have double checked everything. I ca t find anything out of place.

The car just tries to start itself in the "on" position.

So you think it's not the ignition switch?

On top of having the P0690 code, it also shoes me the P1516 code.

Which is pointing out there is a problem with the Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) system. Engine Control Module (ECM) tries to prevent a failure by preventing you from driving for long.

Edit: I ran the test again and got this code - P1682

This code is set when the Engine Control Module(ECM) finds a voltage difference that is higher than the maximum allowed threshold between two circuits- Circuit 1 and Circuit 2

Any help greatly appreciated!

? What went wrong pulling the battery out? You said no issues leading up to this if just taping up a ground wire why take battery out?

Just a web search says this.......

>
|P1682 CHEVROLET code possible causes =
*Faulty ignition switch
*Ignition Switch harness is open or shorted
*Ignition Switch circuit poor electrical connection
*Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

Did the starter run till almost on fire or something?

Other things, moving a battery at all if old especially can wreck one, they don't take vibrations, being dropped, bumped around well at all or worse tipped over, cracked, leaking acids o the list of things.

What was really wrong with supposedly just a ground wire they don't cut themselves but could rot/corrode where connected to battery.

Something here went all wrong if not problem before doing this,

T

This code has to do with shorts and opens of power supplies. This is no coincidence that this occurred after you messed with the battery cables.

I still say something happened with the wiring you messed with. Something is hooked up wrong or shorted.
